I am encountering an issue with the PIN required for accessing certain functionalities within my Pritunl setup. Unfortunately, I do not have access to the original encryption key or the exact encryption scheme used for the PIN.
While I understand the PIN can be reset via the dashboard, I am reaching out to inquire if there is a supported way to decrypt or retrieve the existing PIN. Alternatively, if a secure reset is the only available solution, I would appreciate any guidance or steps to ensure this is done correctly without impacting the current configuration or user access.
Here are some details about my setup that may assist in diagnosing or providing a solution:
Server Version: v1.32.3805.95
Environment: CentOS 7
I understand and respect the security measures in place, and I am seeking a solution that adheres to best practices while resolving this issue.
The user PINs are hashed in the database, it can be reset by clearing the PIN field in the user settings or entering a new PIN. The administrator password can be reset by running sudo pritunl reset-password. Neither will have any effect on the configuration of other users or resources.
Thank you for your earlier response regarding resetting the user PIN and the administrator password. I understand the reset process, but I would like to inquire about an alternative approach.
Is there any way to view or decrypt the existing user PIN from the database without resetting or clearing it? My goal is to retrieve the current PIN for a specific user without disrupting their access or configuration.
This is a follow-up to my previous post regarding the possibility of viewing or decrypting an existing user PIN in Pritunl without resetting it.
I understand that the PINs are hashed in the database, and I am aware of the process to reset them. However, my use case requires retrieving the existing PIN without altering it.
If anyone has insights or additional information that wasn’t covered in the initial responses, I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you for your assistance!
