Hello @zach !
Can we expect more pritunl client like package for pfsense and opnsense in the near futur ?
Thanks
There’s no plans on developing client software for routers. Running any VPN on a router will almost always have significantly worse performance then running it on a separate server and routing the traffic. Routers typically have slow CPUs that are already under load and VPN connections require significant CPU usage for encrypting and decrypting the traffic.
understand what you saying but we can have great cpu performance on custom built pfsense/opnsense and a pritunl package for these plateform could be a great advocate for the software in these large community !
Still scrawling the internet until these days to find a Wireguard solution platform to the level of what Pritunl did with Openvpn ! Zack, you missing out on a crazy opportunity to make Pritunl great by not implementing more plugins for routers like Pfsense and a dedicated app for mobiles like IOS. The way you added Wireguard to Pritunl is not what i expected (we all expected).
Routers are not typically useful for VPN connections. Most routers only have sufficient CPU resources for the network routing requirements and the encryption from VPN connections adds significant CPU usage. It’s almost always better to run the VPN or IPsec connection with pritunl-link on a server then add static routes and port forwarding.
The WireGuard implementation design was required to maintain support for all the security features without weakening authentication.
